session eight

Events:

Augo 18-

Caelen had an intense conversation with the voice in his head, Veyra. She told him to win back the trust of the others or kill them all because they knew too much to be his enemy. He refused and said if they turned on him he would simply run away, but the voice said if he dies, she dies. Veyra implied that if he could not regain their trust then they would be a threat to both of them, and she would attempt to take control to deal with that threat if she must. Zane gave a speech to the towns people about what had happened the night before but chose not to reveal Caelen. Pathe found Caelen in the crowd and implied that she knew who he was and told him to gather the others and meet her at her cottage. Caelen arrived at the cottage first and discovered that Pathe was the one who originally told The Father who he was when Shadoe was sent to kill him. The others arrived and Pathe burned Zane’s letter explaining that Wysper doesn’t know Caelens secret and doesn’t need to. She also told them that Ajax was the one who chose the members of this team, not Wysper. She then defended Caelen making him out to be a one man army against evil and describing him as a hero. Caelen doesn’t agree he should be called a hero but Katrina and Shadoe began to understand him better and vethra even said she has some people she would hire him to target. Zane only came around when Caelen promised to stop torturing people and Pathe said if Zane kept his secret she would break her word to Wysper and retrieve him from Mosphire when his children are to be born. Pathe also disclosed information about Shadoe to the group, including details of The Tower of Flame, The Father, the sisterhood of herself, Shadoe, and Wysper, and the fact that they were sent on missions. They foraged in pathe’s exotic garden before meeting her by the inn and teleporting to Willendale. In Willendale they saw the poverty and refugee displacement caused by the orcs interfering with the trade route to Tanalor. Caelen bribed a ship captain of the Istashar trading company to allow them to stow away in the cargo so when the trading ship dropped off its tax to the orcs, they could be dropped off on the island inside the cargo.

Augo 20-

Zane wouldn’t fit so Caelen made him invisible while the others hid in crates. This plan worked and the team quickly dispatched the orcs at the docks. As they approached the fortress Caelen became invisible and scouted the upper level of the outer walls. He saw mounted ballistas, a caged and abused saber tooth, and a cave entrance. While exploring the cave he realized there had been a collapse due to a black powder explosion. He went back to the team and they decided they should rest for the night in the cave and launch an attack at first light before the fortress realizes their shipment never arrived. Vethra and Zane were made invisible by Caelen and they reached the cave, but Zane had accidentally put the ballista orc on guard when he stepped on a stick. Katrina was next to sneak to the cave but she was spotted and a ballista bolt went straight through her shoulder leaving her on the edge of death. Zane used his boots to sprint to her, pick her up, and carry her deep into the woods before stabilizing her wound. Now Shadoe and Caelen are together near the path, Zane is with Katrina while she’s unconscious, and Vethra is alone in the cave. The orcs have been alerted and are soon to be on the move to find them.

The Vibes:

Caelen-

Caelen is upset and worried by the idea that someone was able to figure out his identity. He was also set on edge by his conversation with Veyra, but the most surprising moment for Caelen was when Pathe defended his actions. He had never experienced someone defending his darkness, and he wasn’t sure how to feel about that.

Veyra (Caelen’s Voice)-

Veyra showed an instinct to survive. She told Caelen she was glad that he was able to win over his allies but it seems that even she is afraid of something. She’s afraid to die.

Vethra-

Vethra was torn apart by Caelens actions, but now she sees the weapon that he is. Their relationship isn’t what it once was, but she even said she had people in mind for him to kill. She doesn’t seem to fear his darkness, but they still do not have the bond they had before. She was curious about pathe’s interest in the fey as well, though she came to realize Pathe doesn’t know much.

Zane-

Zane kept Caelens secret. Even though he showed a passionate disapproval for his actions, he would not betray him. Caelen trusts Zane, and after promising to stop the torture, Zane is hopeful that he may be able to trust Caelen once again too. Zane doesn’t trust Pathe however, she didn’t seem to have any reservations about keeping secrets. Zane cannot stand for secrets and lies.

Shadoe-

Shadoe didn’t have too much to say. She seemed uncomfortable when Pathe spoke of their past, something Shadoe has never talked about before. She has a better understanding of Caelen now, and she believes him when he says he would never hurt any of them.

Katrina-

Katrina was mostly shocked by what she saw in Caelen. Now that Vethra is more vindicated and put together and Caelen has explained himself, she is focused on the mission. Now she is in a brutal state an inch from death, and we are left to wonder how this may affect our stoic huntress.

Pathe-

Pathe knew. All along she knew. She showed remorse when she privately told Caelen that she was the reason he was targeted all those years ago. She said she had no choice. She seems ok with discussing the past she shared with Shadoe and Wysper, but she respects Shadoe too much to make her relive those old memories. She believes Caelen is a hero, and is willing to betray her promise to Wysper to bring Zane home for the birth of his children regardless of where he is. She is a complicated character to say the least.
